INTRODUCING

the WOMEN collection

SylviaHeadshotKitchennotextnotext.jpg

Created by Canadian American artist Sylvia Phillips, the Women collection illuminates the remarkable and inspiring accomplishments of females throughout history by uniquely depicting them in three-dimensional, needle felting forms. Phillips selected prominent historical figures along with less familiar faces who have provocatively and positively impacted the world with their resolute and resonant stance during their own moment in history.

It was the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic—which Phillips refers to as “The Zombie Apocalypse"—that compelled her to create this series of women, particularly her persistent admiration of equal-rights icon Ruth Bader Ginsburg. When Phillips began working on her miniature Supreme Court Justice RBG at the beginning of September 2020, she was completely unaware that the world would lose this legendary woman a week later. Inspired by her perseverance and passion, Phillips became determined to share these powerful stories of female trailblazers and asserted: "The world must know more about them!"

Phillips has remained true to her quest. Carefully researching each selection, she kept her creative commitment with Frida Kahlo, Harriet Tubman, Kamala Harris, Rosa Parks, and sixteen other remarkable women who have irrevocably influenced society. Phillips continues to add to her collection.
